Rick Gehman said Andrew Putnam might be the best player in the $7,800 range. He noted that Putnam has made major improvements in his approach play, having only lost strokes on approach twice since the John Deere in July of last year. Gehman emphasized that Putnam typically gives away two to five strokes off the tee, but if Putnam can remain neutral off the tee at this course, his strong iron play should carry him. Gehman also observed that Vidanta Vallarta should be more forgiving than the challenging venues where Putnam has recently struggled with his driving.
